In-Building Wireless

Research Service

The In-Building wireless market is one of keen interest to carriers looking to boost service delivery to core clients in the most challenging signal environment.  Traditionally, the realm of DAS (Distributed Antenna Systems) IBW has shifted its primary focus from providing better (mainly voice) signal coverage within a building, towards increasing capacity for data-centric and bandwidth-consuming services.

Many buildings and municipal areas are receiving IBW installations, or are being designed for easy addition of an IBW system. IBW solutions can include Active Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS), Passive DAS, repeaters, or networks of picocells. The question of how long these products will remain dominant in a future small cell world for installations in the likes of stadiums, airports, and enterprises remain a key point of contention.
