In the United States, online grocery sales remain a very small proportion of total sales. This is expected to grow substantially through 2030, as grocery chains optimize their last-mile supply chains, develop micro-fulfillment offerings, and expand their omnichannel services. Home delivery has traditionally been a loss leader for grocery retailers, pricing out many, but changes to fulfillment models and targeted investment will make the venture more profitable, delivering more options and better costs to consumers.

Consumer electronics and clothing & footwear retailers have been market leaders in online retail and will continue to lead the charge over the next decade. Companies operating in these areas have been—and will be—among the largest investors in both last-mile fulfillment technologies and solutions to enhance the consumer's online experience.
