Oyster Bay, New York - 25 Mar 2014
Ingenico was the highest ranking POS terminal vendor within ABI Research’s POS Terminal Vendor Competitive Assessment. Ingenico continues to position itself at the forefront of POS innovation through the continued enablement of contactless, and maybe more importantly, through other added value managed and integrated services. Ingenico has addressed its product and service expansion through both in-house development and its strategic acquisitions of ROAM, Ogone, and EasyCash. VeriFone finished close behind in second place with PAX Technology ranking in third.
Accompanying the POS terminal vendor matrix are full year 2013 market share rankings for nine of the leading POS terminal vendors, based on shipments.
Both Ingenico and VeriFone continue to dominate the POS terminal market share rankings with a combined share of 78% leaving the rest to battle it out for the remainder. With both Ingenico and VeriFone further strengthening their positions, it begs the question as to how, if at all, the other leading vendors can continue to compete and close the competitive gap.
Research Analyst, Phil Sealy comments, “It is becoming evident that other players cannot simply mimic the ongoing success of Ingenico and VeriFone. Instead they have to differentiate and target more niche sectors, be more selective in their R&D and any acquisition investment. PAX Technology is one of those vendors trying to close the gap. Through organic growth and expansion, reflected within its third position ranking within the Point of Sale Terminal Competitive Assessment, PAX Technology has broadened its global appeal through a large hardware product portfolio which it has developed to meet the differing needs of various regional markets and verticals. Moving forward, adding additional value added service platforms which enable loyalty, couponing, targeting advertising and marketing will aid PAX Technology to further close the widening innovation gap quickly.”
This Competitive Assessment provides a rating of the leading POS Terminal vendors. A total of nine companies were scrutinized against 10 different criteria all under the categories of Implementation and Innovation.
