Fast Growing OEM and Aftermarket Telematics Segments to Control Nearly 30% of M2M Service Delivery Platform Market Revenues by 2018

There are two platforms that lead in the M2M Service Delivery platform market: Connected Device Platforms (CDP), and Application Enablement Platforms (AEP). Merchant market CDPs help organizations cost effectively manage cellular connected assets; AEPs ease development of M2M applications by providing device connectivity and machine data services. Revenues from these two platforms will exceed $2.2 Billion in 2018. The commercial telematics and remote monitoring and control segments are currently the largest with nearly 50% of platform revenues.

Commenting on the industry results, practice director Dan Shey states, “Commercial telematics is a legacy vertical for cellular M2M connections which boosts CDP revenues. AEP platforms have found a lot of success in the industrial and fixed asset management market, also called remote monitoring and control. Both markets have a large base of small and medium size businesses which value platforms to simplify a complex M2M value chain.”

Automotive OEM telematics will experience one of the highest growth rates and control a much larger share of platform services but mainly through the CDP as more cars are connected using cellular services for a variety of infotainment, safety, security, cost-saving, and convenience applications.

Markets with a more equal revenue distribution across platforms and higher future growth are aftermarket telematics and telehealth—both are mobile requiring CDP services. The high turnover of devices expected in both markets favor AEPs that specialize in a broad certified device portfolio. Both platforms used together can address customer service issues in these consumer-centric markets by assessing the connection using the CDP and the device using the AEP.

Analysis of the M2M Service Delivery Platform market is provided in three new research products. Two reports, “M2M Connected Device Platforms”, and “M2M Application Enablement Platforms” provide a deep dive assessment of drivers, inhibitors, trends and the supplier ecosystem for the CDP and AEP markets to compliment a quantitative assessment. A deep dive quantitative analysis of both markets is provided in a Market Data file, “M2M Service Delivery Platforms”, detailing revenue adoption forecasts by region and M2M application segment. Also included is the total addressable market for each platform. These findings are part of ABI Research’s M2M Service Delivery Platforms Research Service.
