Private Cellular Networks to Generate Over US$64 Billion in Equipment Revenues by 2030

The immense appetite for private networks in the enterprise domain keeps rising and rising. According to a new forecast by ABI Research, private cellular network deployments within the enterprise domain will generate equipment revenues of more than US$64 billion by 2030. While large enterprises (with annual revenues of more than US$1 billion) will drive the market for the next 10 years (accounting for 50% of private networks by 2030), enterprises with annual revenues between US$250 million and US$1 billion will account for 40% of private networks by 2030, with their proportion expected to rise further beyond the forecasting period.

These numbers underline the huge momentum that we see for private cellular networks as a key enabler for enterprise digitization,” says Leo Gergs, Research Analyst for 5G Markets. “As enterprises require highly customized deployment solutions, including deterministic & time-sensitive networking and are governed by strict regulations regarding data protection and network integrity, the deployment of a private cellular network will be their first choice.”

Early Deployments Indicate Open RAN is Maturing and Will Have 75% Market Share by 2030

The development of Open Radio Access network (Open RAN) is gaining momentum. Network operators, new entrants, system integrators, and application developers are working together to unlock the traditional integrated telco supply chain, which has up to now been dominated by a handful of large infrastructure vendors. ABI Research expects the total spending on Open RAN radio units (RUs) for the public outdoor macrocell network will reach US$69.5 billion in 2030, with cumulative unit shipments expected to reach 15.7 million. Meanwhile, the total revenue of Open RAN RUs for enterprise indoor small cell network will get reach as high as US$39.8 billion in 2030, with cumulative unit shipments expected to reach 205.5 million.

The key benefits of Open RAN bring multi-vendor interoperability for innovations and reduce time to market for deploying new network functionality,” said Jiancao Hou, 5G and Mobile Network Infrastructure Senior Analyst. “Powered by network virtualization, Open RAN will help network operators and various industrial enterprise verticals enable network automation and intelligent radio resource control, therefore reducing network integration expenses and operational complexity.”

AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon and more form alliance for 6G leadership

Fierce Wireless

5G networks may be in the early days, but a new group made up of some of the biggest names in wireless and tech have joined to form ATIS’s "Next G Alliance" aimed at leading in 6G and beyond.

Senior Research Director at ABI Research Dimitris Mavrakis put out commentary stating that the Next G Alliance is a significant step to establish the U.S. and Canada in the center of 6G developments.

“North America has lagged behind other regions in 5G, mainly due to the lack of a Tier-1 infrastructure vendor based on the continent, but the Next G alliance aims to create a coalition to make North America a clear leader in 6G,” Mavrakis stated. “This does not necessarily mean that geographical fragmentation is looming in 6G, but rather that companies with U.S. and Canadian interests will have a unified voice and push together for a single goal: to make North America the undisputed leader in 6G and beyond.”

Your iPhone is worth big bucks. Here's why.

CNN International

Trade-in programs give wireless carriers and manufacturers a way to entice new customers and prevent existing customers from switching away from their products -- as we saw with AT&T's free iPhone deal.

"It's probably the closest thing to reviving subsidies, which were rife in the US when the iPhone first hit the market," said David McQueen, research director at tech advisory firm ABI Research.

A major issue trade-ins aim to address is the growing tendency of smartphone users to hold onto their devices for longer, often skipping a model or two (sometimes even more) before buying a new one.

"The motivation for subscribers to upgrade smartphones has been a problem over the past few years with most flagships having very little differentiation with their predecessors," McQueen said.
