Get The ReportVoice interfaces were first introduced as voice commands in vehicles to perform pre-determined tasks, such as making a call, sending text messages, or inputting an address in the navigation engine. While introduced to reduce cognitive load and distraction for drivers, these systems often delivered a poor UX with poor speech recognition. The need to memorize commands often added frustration and distraction to the driving process. Despite the sub-par performance, voice commands are still available in entry-level, very low-cost vehicle models due to their low Bill of Materials (BOM) (around US$20).
