Secure Internet of Things (IoT) connectivity solution provider Kigen has announced that it is opening access to its IoT eSIM Starter Kit, allowing companies to test its SGP.32-certified embedded Subscriber Identity Module (eSIM) solution with pre-loaded profiles from 13+ connectivity partners—1oT, floLIVE, Hologram, iBASIS, KDDI America, KORE, NuvoLinQ, Onomondo, Pangea Connected, Semtech, Skylo, Soracom, and ZARIOT.
Ten eSA-certified eSIMs (meaning both the eSIM Operating System (OS) and hardware are certified) are given 3 months of access to Kigen’s GSMA SAS-certified eSIM IoT remote Manager (eIM) and Kigen Pulse management platform for remote management of profiles and control of device configuration, as well as access to Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) and device-side development tools such as the Embedded C-SDK for IPAd. This comes shortly after “The SGP.32 Reality Check” remote SIM Provisioning demo conducted independently by IoT Stars, in which Kigen’s eSIMs and eIM were used to validate profile migration between three connectivity providers—Onomondo, Soracom, and ZARIOT. The end-to-end switching process was successfully demonstrated, and completed in under 2 minutes.

The demo set out to prove that SGP.32 is production-ready and delivering on its promises, while the starter kit allows prospective adopters to test this themselves. Importantly, it allows them to test this quickly—the development time for a Proof of Concept (PoC) is dramatically lowered by the availability of pre-validated test profiles from over a dozen providers, eliminating the need to negotiate test profile contracts from multiple operators and allowing for rapid prototyping and scaling of device connectivity procedures.
Currently, the landscape for SGP.32 adoption is highly mixed. While some have been preparing for years, others are only just getting started—especially those who are newly considering cellular adoption as a cost-effective trust anchor ahead of growing security compliance requirements such as the European Union’s (EU) Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) enforcement, which begins in September and will be fully realized in 2027.
For those already deploying cellular, the benefits of SGP.32 are well-known—a single manufacturing Stock Keeping Unit (SKU), resilience to operator and infrastructure vendor lock-in, and, most importantly, improved control over connection uptime and quality. In a competitive and pressured IoT environment, frequently operating on narrow margins, such advantages make a significant difference—driving the significant emphasis on cutting the time to market with an SGP.32-enabled solution. As a result, full-featured “starter kits” that allow for quick pilot testing and realistic simulation of scaled operations will be an important part of the 2026 IoT landscape.

The specific next steps and key considerations vary by vendor type:
For Connectivity Providers:
- Integrating with partnerships such as the one demonstrated by Kigen can have a “fear factor,” with customers able to evaluate competing providers side by side. However, this allows for rapid live differentiation analysis, with the possibility to find closely aligned emerging markets that resonate with distinct features—shaping product roadmaps and marketing, and driving opportunities for hyper-reliable niche customer bases.
- Concerns regarding disintermediation can arise, which is why it is essential to select a partner that treats connectivity providers as named partners, rather than hidden suppliers with limited brand amplification. A true ecosystem play requires engagement and investment, but offers strong opportunities to enhance brand identity.
- Moving quickly is essential—participating in starter kits offers a key opportunity to be positioned in front of new adopters, ensuring a role in the new shape of the cellular connected IoT market, particularly when the rapid testing enabled by the kits empower rapid entry into emerging markets.
For Device Manufacturers:
- Use SGP.32 starter kits to shorten development cycles and validate connectivity workflows, reaching commercial availability more quickly and allowing niche capture.
- Treat eSIM as both a connectivity and trust anchor decision, particularly as IoT security compliance requirements move closer to enforcement. Secure-by-design connectivity functionality ameliorates future pain and integrates functionality to support auditing, reporting, and remediation.
For eSIM Infrastructure Providers:
- Package certified eIM, management platforms, device-side tools, and pre-loaded operator profiles into integrated realistic test environments that make SGP.32 adoption easier to evaluate, with a lower barrier to entry.
- Address market concerns with live, realistic demos targeting specific scenarios and processes, such as real-time switching, to prove that solutions are production-ready. While end-to-end solution demonstrations have a place, specific single-procedure tests offer highly shareable and highly digestible takeaways for uncertain prospective customers.
- Focus go-to-market messaging on time to market acceleration, security uplift, and future-proof operational control, particularly insofar as it guarantees ongoing connectivity reliability, as these are the clearest enterprise adoption drivers.
