After declaring its latest BlueBird 7 satellite a total loss, AST SpaceMobile has been given Federal Communications Commission (FCC) approval to launch and operate its constellation of 248 Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites for Direct-to-Cellular (D2C) services. The company’s long list of Mobile Network Operator (MNO) partners all but guarantees a foundation for future monetization, but the market is now being rapidly captured by other players—SpaceX, Amazon (following its Globalstar acquisition), Skylo, and Lynk.
