Hyperscalers Tap Neoclouds to Run Internal AI Workloads

By Reece Hayden | 10 Sep 2025 | IN-7935

In recent weeks, NVIDIA signed a deal with Lambda that will see the chip maker leasing 18,000 of its own Graphics Processing Units (GPUs) over the next 4 years; and Microsoft AI made a deal with Nebius to supply Artificial Intelligence (AI) infrastructure over the next 5 years. These announcements appear counterintuitive—a chip vendor leasing its own GPUs, and a cloud infrastructure provider leasing capacity from a much smaller neocloud to run internal workloads. But, if we look underneath the hood, this is not about letting go of control, but outsourcing to the most effective operators in the market with access to AI capacity today.
