Direct-to-Cellular (D2C) satellite connectivity is set to hit primetime as Starlink has launched early direct-to-smartphone messaging services across several of its partner markets. In addition to earlier partnerships, SpaceX recently announced a new partnership with VEON and Kyivstar to roll out services in Ukraine. While the commercial rollout of satellite Long Term Evolution (LTE) is accelerating, the true inflection point for the market will come after Starlink’s success stories in Ukraine—a story or strategy awfully familiar.
