The graphical user interface (GUI) has dominated computing and mobile device interaction, using icons along with a computer mouse or touchscreen to navigate the system. The growth of smart accessories, wearables, and the concept of connected devices will be influenced by other types of user interface (UI). As the vision of the Internet of Things (IoT) starts to take hold, how do people engage and interact with the plethora of new connected devices? Will each thing have its own interface or will it rely on some common, external method, such as a mobile device, a mounted display, or a public kiosk?
