Industrie 4.0 Chooses OPC-UA
Following a period devoid of any significant news, the last trimester has seen a number of announcements involving the OPC Foundation. Examples include its collaboration with the EtherCAT Technology Group to define an open interface between the two standards and the support that the OPC Foundation will receive from B&R to add real-time capabilities to the OPC standard and the “open shared source” strategy that makes OPC specifications also available to nonmember organizations. But what most attracted my interest was the announcement involving OPC with the Industrie 4.0 platform.
