In August 2014, the ZigBee Alliance announced the availability of the 1,000th ZigBee certified product for the growing Internet of Things (IoT) market; a number that has doubled in just over 2 years. Tobin J.M. Richardson, president and CEO of ZigBee Alliance, argues that the rise can be attributed to “ZigBee’s prominence in the booming Internet of Things industry.” One key area where ZigBee does appear to be gaining significant traction is that of connected or “smart” lighting.
