Chromebook Shipments Show Growth


The first half of 2014 showed promising growth for the Chromebook market, according to ABI Research, shipments grew by 67% between 1Q and 2Q 2014. At first, Chromebooks were slow to gain interest among consumers and vertical markets. But, vendors created partnerships with the education sector and business entities, and Chromebooks slowly started to gain traction in the market. In 2013, ABI Research estimated approximately 2 million devices shipped, of those 79% shipped to North America. In the first half of 2014, ABI Research data shows an estimated 1.5 million Chromebook devices shipped, with Acer taking the lead. For 2Q 2014, the top three vendors, Acer, Samsung, and HP, accounted for approximately 74% of the market.
