Radar has always been an important market segment for the military, commercial air traffic control, marine, and weather radar businesses. It goes without saying the RF power semiconductor device sub-segment of the radar markets is an overall driver for RF semiconductors as well. Until recently, solid-state RF power devices for this application were restricted to less than 4 GHz, but the advent of gallium nitride semiconductors has extended the frequency range well up into the microwave and millimeter wave area.
