Samsung’s Latest Smartwatch Offers Many Qualities of the Modern Smartphone


Samsung’s Gear S, the latest addition to the group’s burgeoning smartwatch range, differs considerably from its predecessors. Referred to as the group’s next-generation smartwatch, the Gear S comes with 3G connectivity and offers calling facilities, indicating the smartwatch, particularly those of the Samsung brand, are no longer an ancillary product, i.e. solely an extension of the modern-day smartphone. With 3G connectivity, users of the Gear S can now access the internet and make calls without a smartphone, thus reinforcing the idea that Samsung is more or less attempting to transport the smartphone experience from the pocket to the wrist. However, whilst the adoption of such new features signifies a new trend in the smartwatch category; one which is likely to be mirrored by other vendors, it’s questionable as to whether these new developments will threaten to compromise both present and emerging...
