Nintendo Announced Pokémon Game for Apple’s iPad


ABI Research, along with many industry followers, has espoused the need for a strategic shift at Nintendo that sees a concerted effort to release games (namely older titles) onto mobile platforms. Nintendo’s decision to release a trading-card game based on the Pokémon universe has given some hope that the company is finally ready to reevaluate its current strategy; however, any celebration might be premature. The card game is PC based so it is not tied to its console business per se, meaning it still maintains the current status quo of keeping its console gaming IP in-house. Perhaps the company might use this as an opportunity to evaluate the market potential for mobile gaming, but if this small endeavor proves unsuccessful, and Nintendo should point to this example as proof of the limited market potential in mobile (for the company), then one could argue the choice of title is dangerously clos...
