Time Warner Cable Aims 1 Gbps Cable Network in Los Angeles


Time Warner Cable announced in July 2014 that it would participate in the deployment of a 1 Gbps network in Los Angeles. The deployment is a response to the city of Los Angeles Community Broadband Network’s (LACBN) request for an enforceable timeline and process for building a 1 Gbps network in the city. According to Time Warner Cable, the response is a part of the company’s future plan to deploy the DOCSIS 3.1 network. 

Time Warner Cable is currently using DOCSIS 3.0 technology, providing up to 300 Mbps download speed in its markets. The company hopes that it will be able to deliver 1 Gbps speed broadband using DOCSIS 3.1 technology in Los Angeles in 2016.
