Tablet’s Voice Calling Has Arrived


On July 30, 2014, FreedomPop, Sprint’s mobile virtual network operator (MVNO), launched a free calling, texting, and data plan for tablet users. Tablet users who register with FreedomPop receive a phone number without having to own a smartphone. A customer is allocated a monthly quota of 200 minutes of voice calls, 500 SMS, and 500 MB of LTE data. Top-up is available at US$10 for 1 GB of data or US$20 for unlimited calls, SMS, and data. The company also introduced the Apple iPad mini and Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 as its pioneer LTE tablet devices, aiming to capture both iOS and Android users.
