MVNOs Eke Out a Meager Existence

There are a number of MVNOs around the world. Sadly the number of profitable and successful MVNOs have proved to be a more exclusive set. The low barriers to entry have permitted a number of MVNOs with very similar business models, and only marginally differentiated marketing plans, to take up residence in the mobile telecoms marketplace. MVNOs such as Virgin have managed a respectable level of success, but there have been many that have gone bankrupt or the investors have quietly wound up the operation and tried to claw back any initial capital they can.

The challenge has not just been market differentiation but also defensible assets that help to repel competitors and secure a competitive advantage. Will British Telecom succeed where other MVNOs have failed?
