EE and Three Plan to Launch VoWiFi Apps


Last week, two announcements by EE and Three in the United Kingdom revealed the operators’ plans to introduce VoIP over Wi-Fi or Voice over Wi-Fi (VoWiFi) services to their customers. The respective services will allow each operator’s customers to send and receive voice calls and text messages over Wi-Fi hotspots either in homes or in public areas with no cellular coverage. The apps will be using subscribers’ phone numbers and also their current data/voice call allowance similar to a cellular network. Both services are expected to be launched this autumn.
