As Many As 40 LTE-A Networks Launched by the End of the Year


As of June 17, 2014, 11 LTE-Advanced networks in 9 countries have been launched. A recent 4G Americas press release predicts the number of network launches could reach 40 before year-end.

Launches and commercial services on LTE-Advanced networks are obviously distinct separate milestones that could be separated by months or perhaps even years. Historically, the first devices able to access a new network air interface protocol have been USB data modems and embedded modem modules. The USB modems are simple designs that do not require cellular voice support or the additional complexity found in computing devices. What is the status of data modem availability for LTE-Advanced networks?
