This document outlines the small cell ecosystem and profiles eleven small cell manufacturers and nine semiconductor vendors. This report is also a companion to our report entitled Small Cell Market Shares – Semiconductor Basebands and Small Cell Equipment (AN-1790).
We include both enterprise and residential femtocell equipment vendors and outdoor small cell vendors in our profiles with many vendors offering both types of equipment and we include a cross reference which outlines where each vendor’s semiconductor SoC’s are used. We have gathered as many public disclosures as are available for the vendors in the ecosystem and we publish our cross reference as a “Where Used” reference. This where used information forms the basis for our market share calculations published in AN-1790.
The eleven equipment vendors we profile are: Airvana, Alcatel-Lucent, Cisco, Contela, Ericsson, Huawei, ip.access, NEC, Nokia, Samsung, and SpiderCloud.
We publish a high level overview of the semiconductor baseband SoC chips on offer today and we compare these heterogeneous multicore architectures using the number of DSP cores, the number of CPU cores, the maximum number of users, technology and sample dates. We profile nine semiconductor vendors which represent the majority of small cell SoC shipments today. The companies we profile are Ablaze, Broadcom, Cavium, Coherent Logix, Freescale, Intel, Octasic, Qualcomm, and Texas Instruments.
