General Electric (GE), the U.S. technology infrastructure, capital finance, energy, and industrial giant, announced on May 9, 2014, a definitive agreement to purchase Wurldtech, a Canadian firm specializing in discovering, analyzing, and mitigating cyber risks for mission-critical devices. Notably, these devices include industrial control systems (ICS), such as SCADA systems, programmable logic controllers, human-machine interfaces, and other operational technologies (OT) found in oil and gas refineries, electrical substations, and congruent industrial environments.

Wurldtech's customer base unsurprisingly therefore includes manufacturers, utilities, and energy companies, but also players in the healthcare sector, such as medical device manufacturers.
