China Aims to Add 30 Million Fiber-optic Broadband Homes in 2014


The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) of China announced that China plans to connect an additional 30 million homes with fiber-optic broadband service by the end of 2014. MIIT’s target is to achieve 200 million users connected to fiber-optic broadband service by the end of 2014.

The ministry also set a target to bring fixed broadband to 13,800 more villages and to provide 30% of total fixed broadband connections with broadband speed of more than 8 Mbps. This target is in addition to the country’s goal of achieving 30 million additional TD-LTE mobile users in China in 2014.
