Rear-seat entertainment systems, typically incorporating DVD players, have been offered by OEMs and numerous aftermarket suppliers for many years. Despite the benefits they can offer to various user groups like small children, teenagers, business people and others on long journeys and daily commutes; OEM rear-seat entertainment has only reached an estimated 2.9 million in 2014. Furthermore, aftermarket devices have not fared too well either, shipments in 2014 are estimated to be 3.5 million globally. However, there is hope that this stagnant market will prosper once more in the form of bring your own device (BYOD) i.e. tablets, smartphones, gaming devices, and other portable media players.
