Pressure to Make Compromises


The mobile phone reference design has so far been a major differentiator for Tier One OEMs, and a key milestone in building their brand image. However, the price war and time to market pressure in the mass market are now pushing these players to make compromises in some cost-sensitive segments, and point themselves to IC vendors for turnkey designs. In these market segments, OEMs will increasingly differentiate their products through industrial design and packaging of exclusive applications and services with their devices.
