Ford Sync: Poor Usability and Reliability


Although yet to be confirmed by either company, rumors abound that Ford is about to switch from Microsoft’s Embedded Automotive OS to QNX’s OS for its next-generation Sync, expected to be launched in 2016. The decision to ditch Microsoft is believed to be due to increasing concerns about the Ford Sync’s poor standings in recent customer surveys relating to usability and reliability, as well as Ford’s desire to reduce its automotive software licensing costs.
