DLNA’s CVP-2 Specification Implementation Guidelines
The DLNA Commercial Video Profile (CVP-2) specification will be published shortly, with compliance certification ready by November. While this timetable means that cable operators will again have to ask the FCC to extend the June 2, 2014 home networking “service discovery and audiovisual service” implementation deadline, it is a significant milestone. Of course, the RVU standard’s implementation by DirecTV led CVP-2 to market by a few years and is already enabling service to Samsung TVs.
Service providers and CableLabs are steering the ship with DLNA’s CVP-2, while technology companies dutifully implement specifications blessed as “industry standard,” and only modestly alter how consumers access content.
