In ABI Research’s latest research analysis Indoor Location Technologies (AN-1331), a section questions the relevance of Wi-Fi location. This would have been considered the scribblings of a madman only a year ago, but a lot has changed. Start-ups have made a clear shift away from handset-based location (given the short- to medium-term difficulties in this). But more important, high costs and low accuracy are now significantly hampering the infrastructure-based Wi-Fi market in the face of competing technologies. And the access point vendors have no one to blame but themselves.
