A Strong and Valid Case for Both Sides
There is no doubt that “net neutrality” does incense passions. It has been quite remarkable to see the heated debates in the news, the telecoms trade press, and the blogosphere. It is quite clearly and finely balanced, and there are strong and valid arguments on both sides.
The pro-net neutrality supporters see in the U.S. court ruling dire consequences for consumer rights of access to the Internet content of their choice. They also cite concerns about the damage that will be done to entrepreneurship and the rate of Internet innovation.
On the other side, the telcos have argued that handling traffic costs money and that different sources of traffic can have a disproportionate impact on the amount of traffic they have to manage across their network.
