China Mobile Deploys Service in Guangzhou


The world’s largest operator by subscribers, China Mobile, announced the launch of commercial services featuring VoLTE running on their TD-LTE network in Guangzhou as a precursor to a nationwide rollout by the end of 2014. China Mobile now becomes the second operator in Asia, outside of South Korea, to announce VoLTE after CSL in Hong Kong in December of last year.

China Mobile used ZTE’s IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) and 4G smartphones from various vendors equipped by Qualcomm processors to enable the VoLTE service. The network supports enhanced Single Radio Voice Call Continuity (eSRVCC) switching for seamless handover to 2G and 3G networks, and complies with 3GPP Rel-10.
