Comcast Launches EST Sales in Late November 2013

Comcast recently launched early Movie Purchases (Electronic Sell-Through, or EST) through its XFINITY TV Store online and its set-top boxes; users can also access content on mobile devices (iOS and Android), but cannot currently purchase content from the mobile app (XFINITY On Demand purchases). Comcast is the first cable operator in the United States to offer such a service, although Verizon was first with its Flex View service, which launched in 2010. While Comcast is a member of Ultraviolet (the movie studio’s electronic storage locker), the first incarnation of its service will remain outside the UV wall and this could prove problematic.

EST Complementary, but Fragmentation Remains
