RetailNext, one of the bright new lights in the traditional people-counting/analytics space, recently acquired Nearbuy, another start-up (ex-Aruba employees) focused on high-accuracy customer analytics based on camera technology. Its local eye technology is based on a combination of video analytics via in-store cameras and an amalgamation of Wi-Fi algorithms using existing in-store infrastructure. The video analytics can identify where something is but not who it is without significant real-time processing capabilities. By combining the two technologies, the creation of false positions via multipath can be removed, creating much higher levels of accuracy. Nearbuy charges US$100 per month for its captive Portal application and US$500 per month to also include its micro-location solution.
