China Mobile to Launch a New 4G Brand on December 18, 2013


China Mobile planned to launch the 4G brand “He,” which meant “harmonious” in Chinese, on December 18, 2013. This brought an expectation that China Mobile would launch a commercially operational 4G network on that day as well, though it had not yet acquired 4G licenses on the announcement date. Previously, at the International Telecommunication Union’s (ITU) World Conference held in Thailand, a Chinese official from the Ministry of Industry and Information (MIIT) announced that China would issue 4G licenses by the end of 2013, promoting the commercialization of Time-Division Long-Term Evolution (TD-LTE) in China.
