Naspers Experiences Pay TV Growth in 3Q 2013


According to Africa’s pay TV operator, Naspers, the company’s pay TV revenue grew 18% to ZAR17.1 billion for 6 months until the end of September 2013. Total pay TV subscriber base increased to 7.3 million from 6 million in September 2012. Naspers’s major pay TV service is its satellite TV service, DStv, which has operations in South Africa and other countries in sub-Saharan Africa.

Naspers reported that the GOtv subscriber base reached 0.5 million by the end of September 2013. GOtv, Naspers’ pay TV service on a digital terrestrial television (DTT) platform, was first launched in Zambia in June 2011. GOtv service is offered in countries outside South Africa, and it is now operating in eight African countries: Ghana, Kenya, Namibia, Nigeria, Uganda, Malawi, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
