Cadillac ELR First EV to Communicate with Smart Grids


GM’s 2014 Cadillac ELR is positioned as smart grid-ready, allowing smart grids to interface with OnStar’s cloud-based APIs to save energy. EV services offered via the OnStar RemoteLink smartphone application include charging status, driving range, electric miles, electric miles per gallons (eMPG), and controlling charging schedules during off-peak hours. However, the smart grid APIs are the real innovation, allowing utilities and third-party companies to access vehicle data to offer a wide range of energy cost and load control services and benefits to users who have opted in for the following services:
