The Top 3 Mobile Operators Raised 3G Tariffs


On October 16, 2013, Vietnam’s three largest mobile operators, Viettel, MobiFone, and Vinaphone, increased their average 3G tariffs by 20% and their unlimited plans by 40%. This is not the first time 3G data plans were raised. In April 2013, the operators increased their unlimited 3G data plans from VND40,000 (USD$1.92) per month to VND50,000 (USD$2.4) per month. The reason for the price hike was that revenue decreased because of smartphone application, which substituted voice calls and messages.
