The View on HTML5 from AppWorld in London


ABI Research recently attended and presented at AppWorld in London. HTML5 was discussed in the Droid Zone during a number of presentations and panel sessions with some audience participation, and the views were near universally negative on what HTML5 has delivered. Less than 18 months ago it seemed HTML5 was off to a flying start, with Facebook and LinkedIn adopting the standards. Both have since dropped HTML5 in favor of Native. Only six months after launching the app, Mark Zuckerberg said, "The biggest mistake we made as a company was betting too much on HTML5 as opposed to Native. It just wasn't ready."

Yet, the promise is still here: Use the same code base and the same web development skillset for the deployment of Native apps for mobile, browser apps for mobile, cross platform for the desktop (also outside of the browser), and ...
