Continental and IBM Sign Connected Car Agreement
Automotive Tier 1 supplier Continental chose the 2013 IAA International Motor Show in Frankfurt to announce its long-rumored partnership with IBM to develop connected car technology. Continental refers to the following IBM expertise and assets being of most value: deep analytics, cloud platforms, embedded system development, and predictive algorithms.
The main focus of this collaboration will be to develop a scalable cloud platform allowing automotive vendors to offer a large number of in-vehicle multimedia applications but also remote vehicle monitoring and over the air updates. IBM and Continental will also jointly develop an “electronic horizon” platform offering anticipatory driving capabilities, ultimately leading to advanced forms of automated driving.
