Telefonica O2 to Acquire E-Plus


On July 23, Telefonica agreed to acquire German mobile operator E-Plus in a deal valued at €8.1 billion. Telefonica will merge the 3rd and 4th largest operators into the #1 firm, upending the German mobile telecom market. This is another step in the consolidation necessary for a healthy and competitive mobile telecom market.

Consolidation and Industry Maturity


The continuing consolidation of operators indicates the industry is seeking a healthy and sustainable equilibrium. With any of these consolidations, regulatory and anti-trust concerns bear close scrutiny.
