Consumer Electronics and Set-Top Box Remote Controls: IR, BLE, RF4CE
This report analyzes the CE remote control market. The market is divided into three primary categories: service provider STB remotes, bundled CE, and retail. The service provider market encompasses those remotes bundled with new STB deployments, along with remote replacements for churned STBs and those damaged/lost by subscribers and replaced by the service provider. The OEM CE remote market analysis only includes those remotes bundled with CE devices ABI Research actively tracks, which include: TVs, smart STBs, and Blu-ray players. Game console controllers are also included in this analysis but data points are provided separately from the OEM CE market. The retail market includes universal remote controls and remote replacements – it does not include the custom installer/CEDIA market.
The report also evaluates the underlying remote control wireless technologies, which include RF4CE, Bluetooth/BLE, and proprietary RF solutions. While IR is expected to remain widely supported throughout the forecasting period RF is quickly assuming a leading role in the remote control space. Forecasts are provided to 2020 and cover the six primary geographical regions: North America, Western Europe, Eastern Europe, Asia-Pacific, Latin America, Middle East & Africa.
