Flexible display technologies have been talked about in the technology industry for the past four decades. Many electronics vendors have explored flexible TVs, and eventually mobile OEMs begun to discuss the promise of bendable phones. However, a commercial handset has yet to materialize. A number of mobile OEMs have trialed the bendable display technology but a strong business case has not become clear for the majority of vendors. This year, two serious contenders will begin to incorporate the new malleable displays into their products: Samsung and LG. This will undoubtedly lead to more mobile OEMs using flexible display technologies.
The study analyzes the leading flexible display technologies and what each vendor is doing and how they differentiate their display offerings. The study will provide forecasts for flexible displays for smartphones, media tablets, e-readers, smart watches, and other devices. Additionally, an update on key mobile OEMs activities will also be examined in detail along with a summary of the development and incorporation of the technology in handsets.
