Carrier Strategies to Alleviate the Capacity Crunch: Spectrum Sources, RAN Technologies, and Network Topology

Mobile operators are facing mobile data traffic challenges at a level which they have never experienced. From a 2012 figure of 13,400 Peta Bytes, mobile traffic should grow to grow at a CAGR of 42% p.a. to surpass 131,100 Peta Bytes being transmitted in 2018.

State regulators and equipment vendors; however, believe there are three levers which can be pulled in order to alleviate some of the pressures of the “capacity crunch”:
