In-car Smartphone Integration Technologies – Temporary Solution or Here to Stay?

Developments in the smartphone world are revolutionizing consumers’ in-car expectations and car OEMs now face the difficult challenge of reconciling the long development and lifecycles of their vehicles, which are measured in years, with the short lifecycles of consumer devices such as smartphones, which may become outdated in less than two years.

OEMs are facing the dilemma of how best to integrate in-vehicle systems and smartphones and how to ensure that the integration strategy remains viable throughout the life of the vehicle and multiple generations of smartphones (with as yet unknown applications for these smartphones).

There are many ways of replicating a smartphone screen on a car head unit. This report looks at a range of competing technologies and assesses the market opportunity for the main contenders.
