HTML5 for Mobile Devices

When discussing HTML5, it is essential to understand that it is not by any means a single technology, but a collection of features meant to improve HTML, the primary markup language of the web. These features are incrementally making the web an increasingly powerful development platform, and as a direct consequence more and more mobile developers are facing a strategic decision on whether they should take advantage of them. However, not all applications are created equal, and while HTML5 can be extremely relevant in certain app categories its potential can be outright negligible in many others. In this study, ABI Research explains what the 25 most prominent HTML5 features are and how they can enhance the mobile web. It also provides a forward-looking assessment of how feasibly leading apps in 23 different application categories could be developed by using HTML5 instead of native code within an 18 months' time. Furthermore, included in the study is an analysis of which industries and individual companies stand to win or lose from the advances in HTML5.
