Online video platforms (OVP), content management systems (CMS), managed video platforms (MVP), and content delivery networks (CDN) are all part of media & entertainment companies strategies to deliver videos as part of TV Everywhere and over-the-top (OTT) video services. This product tracks the growth of video platforms used to deliver video to any screen over IP, including PC's, tablets, smartphones, connected TVs, game consoles, and smart set-top boxes. In 2012, revenues for video platforms distributing video on behalf of media & entertainment companies (including cable & satellite distributors) worldwide reached $2.1 billion, and will grow to $4.7 billion in 2018. Well-known CDN Akamai has a commanding lead of the video delivery market, with $580 million in 2012 revenues to media and entertainment companies. CDNs generally are responsible for finding optimal routes for the video, and storing copies close to consumers to ensure a high quality of delivery. Second place KIT Digital is emerging from bankruptcy as Piksel – although the strength of the business is very much in question. Brightcove is the largest OVP with $55 million in 2012 media & entertainment revenues. Synacor, who primarily hosts websites for Cable MSOs, leads the MVP market with nearly $122 million in 2011 revenues.
