This Competitive Assessment (CA) evaluates the key vendors providing home automation software platforms. It does so through a series of studies:
· A vendor matrix (VM), which assesses and ranks the top nine software vendors through an analysis of each company’s product and services innovation and each organizations strategy and implementation in the global market.
· A market share (MS) evaluation, which compares vendors by ABI Research estimates of home automation system unit shipments/installations for their software platforms for 2011.
The nine vendors assessed in this CA are: 4Home (a unit within Google’s Inc’s Motorola Mobility acquisition), Alarm.com, AlertMe, Control4, Creston, Greenwave Reality, iControl Networks, Tendril Networks, and There Corporation.
The vendors included in this study include a number of contrasting approaches to HAS software platform delivery. Sales channels vary from single home installations to Software as a Service (SaaS) players providing broad saleable platforms. In addition, ABI Research has traditionally segmented the home automation market by the price level and structure of service offering. These segments have been luxury, mainstream, do-it-yourself (DIY) and managed. Within this study there is at least one HAS software platform provider from each segment.
The vendors in this study may not compete with like-for-like offerings in terms of service or customer price point but there is a level of commonality between the end-user services that makes them competitive. The study also includes vendors that specialize in aspects of the wider home automation market with services such as energy and security management.
