802.15.4 in general and Zigbee specifically has seen rapid adoption since 2004 to grow to almost 100 million devices shipped in 2012. The technology is now at a tipping point where it could continue to see strong growth driven by its ability to be used as an ultra-low power, low-cost, mesh networking technology in emerging markets across the Internet of Everything or see it relegated to a niche technology because of issues with interoperability and strong competition from other wireless technologies.
