Shipments of NFC in all product areas grew in 2012, most notably in smartphones and associated tag usage. All leading smartphone OEMs (with one notable exception) have multiple devices featuring NFC and it is increasingly being used as a differentiator for apps and services. Now that this first step has been achieved, how will the market progress from here? And which companies have been driving this to date and will do so in the future?
This report examines attach rates for the adoption and use of NFC in the primary device categories and analyzes how companies are considering to use their use of NFC to position themselves. The trigger and tipping points for different categories are considered and discussed as well as examining OEM, MNO, and vendor strategies relating to NFC. These factors plus possible barriers and areas of contention are assessed ahead of forecasts for market development, including NFC-enabled devices and the different means of implementing NFC.
